About Lynda’s Symposium Session
Dream material can give access to schemas, particularly the unconditional schemas of early childhood, that may be difficult for clients to emotionally connect with in sessions. Lynda presents research from neurobiology, sleep, and memory studies to explain how this happens, and why the dreaming process is thought to be critical to memory consolidation, particularly in connecting current events with past experience.
Her case study of working with a client’s dream shows how to connect the therapist’s in-depth knowledge of the client’s schemas and modes, from the case conceptualisation, with dream material. Exploring the dream through the emotion-focused techniques of schema therapy can open a connection with the Vulnerable Child mode, often for the first time, along with emotional expression of the schemas.
Lynda brings the session into conversation with Rita Younan on November 16. This session runs on a Monday evening in the US so members in Australia and Asia can join live.
