Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about JYSTA, membership, and how to engage with our schema therapy community.
What is JYSTA?
The Jeffrey Young Schema Therapy Association is an international professional community for clinicians, researchers, trainers, educators, and supporters committed to schema therapy as developed by Dr. Jeffrey Young. Members come together to advance the practice with integrity, depth, and precision.
Who is JYSTA for?
Membership is open to clinicians, researchers, trainers, educators, and supporters at every stage of their engagement with schema therapy — from those new to the model to advanced practitioners and supervisors. You do not need to be certified in schema therapy to join.
How do I choose the right membership level?
JYSTA offers four tiers: Community (open to anyone interested in schema therapy), Student (those currently in training), Professional (practicing clinicians and researchers), and Sustaining (those who want to support the continued growth of the association at a higher level). If you are unsure where to start, Professional or Community are the most common entry points, and you can change levels later.
How does membership pricing work?
Pricing is tiered by membership level and adjusted by World Bank country category to support equitable access across regions. Full pricing for each country category is published on the Membership page. Membership is billed annually from the date of joining, with optional automatic renewal.
What is included with membership?
Every member gets year-round access to a global professional community on Mighty Networks, with discussions, events, and resources at no additional cost. Live events, In Dialogue conversations, and JYSTA-hosted symposia are included with membership at no per-event fee. Members also have access to a growing archive of recorded sessions and past program content.
Do I need to be certified in schema therapy to join?
No. Membership does not require certification. JYSTA welcomes clinicians, researchers, trainers, educators, and supporters at every stage of training and practice.
What kinds of clinical discussions take place?
Discussions cover the clinical application of the schema therapy model, theoretical developments, emerging research, case consultation, and practice questions. Access to clinical discussion areas is available to Student, Professional, and Sustaining members. Community members participate in general discussions and select events.
Are clinical discussions moderated?
Clinical discussions take place within a professional community guided by established standards of respectful, ethical clinical communication. Members are expected to engage in keeping with the professional and ethical standards of their own practice.
Can I change my membership level later?
Yes. You can change your membership level at any time as your role or level of engagement evolves, including upgrading from Student to Professional after graduation.
Are there country restrictions on membership?
JYSTA welcomes members from around the world. As a US-based nonprofit, the association complies with applicable US laws regarding international participation and payment processing. If you have questions about eligibility based on your location, please contact us. A temporary humanitarian rate is available for clinicians residing in Ukraine or primarily serving Ukrainian clients.
How do I join?
